The obligation of ownership. An art collection under scrutiny
What is looted art? The Zeppelin Museum Friedrichshafen addresses this controversial question with its own collection in the permanent exhibition Ownership obliges. An art collection put to the test. It explores the stories and lives behind the works of art: Where do the Gothic sculptures, Baroque paintings and masterpieces of classical modernism come from? The fates of collectors, looted or relocated artworks and Nazi agitation against modern art become visible. The exhibition also takes a critical look at Lake Constance as a retreat for former Nazi greats and dealer networks between Germany, Switzerland and Austria.
Is this all looted art?
