The Zeppelin Museum Friedrichshafen houses the world's largest archive on Zeppelin history and serves as the central research hub for all questions related to airship travel, Zeppelin, and the industrial history of Friedrichshafen.

The archive's holdings include documents from the estate of Count Zeppelin concerning the construction of his airships from 1890, as well as the history of Luftschiffbau Zeppelin GmbH and its subsidiaries from 1908 onwards. It also contains records of the company's more recent history after 1945 and of the successor companies to Luftschiffbau Zeppelin GmbH.

In addition, the archive holds the personal papers of significant figures in Zeppelin and company history, such as Hugo Eckener, Hans von Schiller, Wilhelm Ernst Dörr, and Max Losch. A unique collection of photographs, films, postcards, brochures, posters, graphics, newspaper clippings, and similar artifacts completes the archive.
