Ana Strika is the 43rd Artist in Residence of the ZF Art Foundation. As part of her 2024 residency, she has developed the site-specific installation DIE VORSTELLUNG at the Zeppelin Museum Friedrichshafen.

Ana Strika describes her approach as a process-oriented exploration of form and the act of creation itself. Her installations resonate with space, time, and context, drawing from her carefully collected and organized pool of materials: cardboard, scraps of paper, string, branches, wood remnants, or plaster. She uses these elements in a modular fashion, creating constellations where objects come together on new levels of meaning. Again and again, her ambiguous forms and diverse materials play with the memories and associations of the viewers. “Every installation is an arrangement of possibilities and an experiment,” says the artist.

Impressions, encounters in new surroundings, and even chance occurrences define the artist’s process-driven work. For her current installation, DIE VORSTELLUNG, she has created a room within a room. At the center of a dark exhibition space, small-scale elements and objects from her collection are gathered on a table-high, amorphous platform resembling a stage. Focused beams of light highlight individual objects, casting sharp shadows.

Every step offers a shift in perspective, revealing miniature spaces within the space. Openings appear, offering unexpected glimpses, cutting through and overlapping the rooms. Constantly shifting, new spaces and forms emerge, surprisingly familiar yet unsettling in their kaleidoscopic metamorphosis. Driven by the movement of the visitors, the installation becomes a dynamic, ever-changing spatial collage. DIE VORSTELLUNG continually opens up new dimensions—inviting reflection and discovery in perpetual transformation. Ana Strika invites visitors into a world of forms and imagination, layered, mysterious, and full of poetry.

Ana Strika was born in 1981 in Zurich, where she continues to live and work. She studied Fine Arts at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK). Among her numerous accolades are a 2021 artist grant from the City of Zurich, a 2019 Visual Arts Grant from the Canton of Zurich, a 2016 recognition award from the UBS Cultural Foundation, as well as a six-month studio fellowship from Zurich Culture in Istanbul. In 2023, she completed a three-month residency from the Jakob and Emma Windler Foundation at Chretzeturm in Stein am Rhein. In 2024, Ana Strika is the Artist in Residence of the ZF Art Foundation in Friedrichshafen.
